Altered Book Workshop – Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm







What’s an Altered Book...? Any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative means transforming it into an object D'art! Curious...join Express Yourself Studios Thursday, March 19 and learn how to rebind, paint, cut, fold, add to, collage, rubber stamp, or otherwise adorn and alter a book. Artist Doreen Valenza will show participants how to combine several types of artistic techniques into one unique art form to create the ultimate personal piece of artwork.

“Altered Books” is part of an ongoing series of Cocktails & Canvas workshops offered by Express Yourself Studios every 3rd Thursday of the month. Crafty Toddlers (Ages 2-4) 4 week Art Program


Express Yourself Studios in now offering a Thursday & Saturday morning class for toddlers! Crafty Toddlers begins Thursday, March 5 and Saturday March 7, 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Children ages 2-4 are invited to play with paint! Pinch and pound clay! Collage with glue and explores different art materials. A different project each week. Moms, Dads or Caregivers can participate too!

Spring Art Classes and Workshops Offered by Express Yourself Studios


MAPLEWOOD, NJ, February 15, 2009 – Express Yourself Studios, A Space to Create located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood is currently accepting enrollment for its Spring art classes (March – April). Classes are available for adults and children (ages 3-14) and are offered in 6 week sessions. All materials are included, and there is a wide variety of classes to choose from. Kid’s classes include: Crafty Toddlers, Art Adventure, Creative Collage, Media Mix, and Art Sampler. Tween/Teem classes include Fashion Illustration and Adult classes are Acrylics, Watercolor and Pastel Workshops as well as the Art of Collage. The Spring session begins week of March 9 through week of April 13.

For those who may be working on an ongoing project or starting a new one the studio also offers Open Studio time. “We want to be a venue for people to come and be creative,” said Simone Anthony-Brown, artist and owner of Express Yourself Studios. The studio also makes available its wall space for emerging and local artists to showcase their work.

Experience Acrylics with Artist Rosalia Tignini Verdun





MAPLEWOOD, NJ, February 15, 2009 – Experience Acrylics is part of an ongoing series of workshops offered by Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, NJ. The workshop will take place on Thursday, February 19, 7pm – 9pm.
Artist Rosalia Tignini Verdun an award winning artist will take participants through an exercise in Acrylics. Mrs. Verdun a local New Jersey artist is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the Millburn-Short Hills Art Center and an instructor at the NJ Visual Arts Center. Her work can be found in galleries and in private collections throughout the U.S. Currently Mrs. Verdun’s work can be viewed at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, the ACL Gallery in Livingston, at Express Yourself Studios or by visiting www.rosaliart.com.

Renowned African-American Artist Charles Caldwell to Show Works at Express Yourself Studios During Black History Month




MAPLEWOOD, NJ, February 15, 2009 – Renowned, international, African-American artist Charles Caldwell will have works from his American Mettle series on display during the month of February at Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue.

Caldwell expresses his unique views and voices his love and concern for his community through art. Mix media and strong emotions are the trademark of his pieces, which are extraordinary expressions of everyday themes. Mr. Caldwell’s latest series American Mettle are his thoughts on modern Americanism. He hopes the series will inspire conversations and reflections about the American spirit.

Mr. Caldwell will unveil his latest work “Seal of the President of the United States” featuring exquisitely painted images of President Barack Obama. These images will be available for purchase (lithographs) and may be signed by the artist at Express Yourself Studios on Sunday, February 1, 8, 15 and 22 between 2pm – 6pm. “We are so pleased to have an artist of Mr. Caldwell’s caliber join us for our Black History Month observance,” said Rodney-Brown co-owner of Express Yourself Studios.
