MAPLEWOOD, NJ, January 17, 2010– Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, NJ has several events slated for Black History Month. All are invited to take part in one or more of the Studio’s events which kicks-off with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Events are suitable for families and include the following:
Monday, January 18 – Celebrate Dr. King; Explore the Dream through Art
Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Learn about Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement through art. Children between the ages of 4-12 are welcome to participate in a drop-in art project exploring the themes of Peace, Equality and Friendship. All participants are asked to bring a canned or boxed non-perishable food item to be donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
Saturday, February 6, 13, 20, 27 – African American Artists Series
Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Every Saturday during the month of February enjoy a special Black History Month lesson in art exploring a different African-American Master Artist. This program is offered as part of Express Yourself Studios’ regular Studio Saturday offering and is open to children ages 5-12.
Thursday, February 25 – African Mask Workshop
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
As part of the Studio’s Pizza & Pottery Workshop, children ages 5-12 will participate in a fun sculpture project creating an African mask from Paper Mache.

Express Yourself Studios is an art studio and art gallery dedicated to being an outlet for children and adults to express themselves creatively via classes in arts and crafts.
