Celebrate Dr. King Explore the Dream Through Art at Express Yourself Studios Monday, January 16

Express Yourself Studios will host its 4th annual Martin Luther King Jr. "Explore the Dream Through Art" Workshop.

Learn about Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement through art. Children between the ages of 4-12 are welcome to participate in an art project exploring the themes of Peace, Equality and Friendship. All participants are asked to bring a canned or boxed non-perishable food item to be donated to the Wallace Chapel Food Pantry (a service of Wallace Chapel Church) in Summit, NJ.

Workshop Fee: $15 per child, All materials included. One hour of Studio time, join us any time between 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Express Yourself Studios is Relocating Its Business

MAPLEWOOD, NJ, December 14, 2011 – Express Yourself Studios is relocating its business. Currently housed at 1912 Springfield Avenue, the Studio’s new home beginning January 9, 2012 will be 1877 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, New Jersey. The studio which offers art classes for adults and children will continue its vast class offering and seasonal workshops such as Kid’s classes: Crafty Toddlers, Media Mix, Drawing & Painting, Sculpture and Cartoon Workshops. Teen classes include Art4ReAL every 2nd Friday and drop-in studio sessions.

The Studio also hosts birthday parties and a myriad of art events and special workshops throughout the year such as Cocktails & Canvas and Coffee & Canvas Workshops for adults and Painting-N-Pajamas and Pizza & Pottery for toddlers and children.

Owned by husband and wife team Rodney Brown and Simone Anthony-Brown the Studio has been a fixture in the Township of Maplewood since October 2008. “This is our first business, we’ve enjoyed the community, so when we found ourselves needing additional space, we knew we absolutely wanted to remain in Maplewood and on Springfield Avenue,” says Anthony-Brown.

The new location will enable Express Yourself Studios to provide its patrons with a separate birthday party room, additional workshop offerings for families, older children and teens, a completely handicap accessible space, and a larger restroom facility complete with a changing table.

“We’re pretty excited about the move, and invite everyone to celebrate with us at our Grand Re-Opening,” says Rodney Brown. The Grand Re-Opening is slated for Saturday, January 21 at 1:00pm and includes giveaways, refreshments and entertainment.

“Food as Art” Project – Express Yourself Studios & Whole Foods Market (West Orange) Tuesday, December 13 Paint “Cupcakes”

“Food as Art,” be inspired by the wonderful colors and textures of desserts let them be your muse as you create a still-life "dessert" painting with artist Simone Anthony-Brown of Express Yourself Studios. Participants will create an 11” x 14” acrylic painting on watercolor paper. Ms. Anthony-Brown will instruct the students beginning with a light sketch of the subject then adding layers of color with acrylic paint utilizing sponge and bristle brushes until the image is complete. Everyone leaves with a finished frame worthy piece of artwork. Plus, Whole Food Market’s Healthy Eating Specialist Tyrone will be on hand to whip-up a delicious treat. Home for the Holidays? Express Yourself Studios; located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood will host a Holiday Break Art Workshop December 26 - 30, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm for children age 5-12.

Participants will create paintings inspired by Master Artists (O’Keeffe, Van Gogh, Warhol, etc.) using a mix of mediums (acrylics, watercolor, and pastels) and other projects using a myriad of materials (clay & paper collages). All materials are included, 3-hours of studio time, workshop Fee: $150 for the week or $45 per child/per day. All children are encouraged to bring a light snack.

"Family Fun Night of Art” Every Saturday at Express Yourself Studios Beginning January 2012

"Family Fun Night of Art" every Saturday 4:00pm-6:00pm at Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood. Families join us for 2-hours of studio time, one (1) guided art project, pizza, beverages and all materials required to facilitate the workshop.

NJEA Convention Days Art Workshop at Express Yourself Studios November 10 - 11

Express Yourself Studios, located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood will offer a two-day art workshop during the NJEA Teacher Convention Day school closures on November 10 and November 11 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Children ages 5-12 are welcome to join Express Yourself Studios for three hours of fun arts & crafts!

Fall Art Classes and Workshops Offered by Express Yourself Studios

MAPLEWOOD, NJ, September 14, 2011 – Express Yourself Studios, A Space to Create located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood is currently accepting enrollment for its Fall art classes (October - December). Classes are available for adults and children (ages 2-12) and are offered in 6 week sessions. All materials are included, and there is a wide variety of classes to choose from. Kid’s classes include: Crafty Toddlers, Media Mix, Drawing & Painting, Sculpture and Cartoon Workshop. Teen classes include Art4ReAL Workshops every 2nd Friday. ArT4ReAL Teen Workshop at Express Yourself Studios Next on Sept. 9 Join Us!

Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, NJ offers a new teen art workshop called ArT4ReAL. ArT4ReAL takes place every 2nd Friday of the month from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Teens are invited to take part in a guided art project; enjoy music, pizza and beverages while they express themselves creatively on canvas.

"Food As Art" Workshop Express Yourself Studios & Whole Foods Market (Paramus & West Orange)

Join Express Yourself Studios and Whole Foods Market's KIDZ CLUB for the "Food as Art" workshop. Be inspired by the wonderful colors and textures of the fruits and vegetables of the season; let them be your muse as you create a still-life painting on canvas with artist Simone Anthony-Brown of Express Yourself Studios.

Children will create a 5" x 7" acrylic painting on canvas board. Every child leaves with a finished frame worthy piece of artwork. Plus, Whole Food Market's Healthy Eating Specialists will be on hand to whip-up delicious fruit & veggie smoothies.

Summer Saturday Art Camp at Express Yourself Studios...Join Us!

Join Express Yourself Studios’ for our Summer Saturday Art Workshop!

Enjoy the weekly Summer Art Camp experience on the weekend. Children (ages 5-12) will create art projects inspired by Master Artists such as: Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat.

Children will learn about the Artists through discussions, examples, and art-making. Projects will include painting, drawing, mixed media collage, sculpture, printmaking and paper mache.

All materials included, 3-hours of studio time each day.

Workshop Fee: $245 for 7 sessions or $45 per child/ per day (sibling discounts available).

The Deadline for Summer Art Camp is Fast Approaching, Register Now!

Express Yourself Studios located at 1912 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood has begun its Summer Art Workshop 2011 enrollment. The Summer Art Workshop program is open to children ages 5-12. Children will experiment with a variety of media in a fun and supportive environment. Participants will be encouraged to use their imagination freely as they learn about Master Artists. The Summer Workshop runs June 27 – August 26. The registration deadline is June 25.

Workshop attendees will create 10-15 art projects per week. The projects will be inspired by a different Master Artist. The 2011 9-week schedule includes the following artists: Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat.
