10th Annual “Celebrate Dr. King: Explore the Dream Through Art” Workshop - Express Yourself Studios

Express Yourself Studios located at 1877 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood will host its 10th annual “Celebrate Dr. King: Explore the Dream Through Art” workshop, Monday, January 15, 11 AM – 2:00 PM. Learn about Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement through art. Families with children between the ages of 4-12 are welcome to participate in an art project exploring the themes of Peace, Equality, Friendship and Community.

In celebration of the 10th year honoring and remembering Dr. King, the studio will provide the first 20 families that pre-register with the inspired reading for the day “My Daddy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr,” written by Martin Luther King, III.

Special guest readings by Maplewood Township and resident representatives (on the hour):

Additionally, all participants will contribute to a larger, community canvas to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the “Celebrate Dr. King: Explore the Dream Through Art" Workshop. The community canvas will be displayed at the Maplewood Library (Main Branch) in February.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a day of service, to learn more about The King Holiday visit: http://www.thekingcenter.org/meaning-king-holiday. As in previous years Express Yourself Studios encourages all participants to bring a canned or boxed, non-perishable food item to be donated to a local charity, this year’s donations will benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair NJ, http://www.humanneedsfoodpantry.org. Donations are accepted now through January 30.

In addition, this year $5 of each registration fee will be donated to Color for Kids, to learn more about the organization visit www.colorforkids.net.

The Workshop Fee is $20 per participant. If registering a group or community organization, register at the group rate of $15 per participant.

Express Yourself Studios is an art studio and art gallery dedicated to being an outlet for children and adults to express themselves creatively via classes in the arts.
